Enemies Scaling

The world scaling has been completely revamped from what it looked like in the Vanilla game. it is now based on 3 Factors.

  • The encounter zone level
  • Your level
  • The enemy level multiplier

These factors make the world semi unleveled meaning you can encounter higher or lower level enemies than you but within a certain range which will continue to scale as you progress giving you still a challenge even at higher level.

Every encounter zones start at a certain level, meaning visiting these zones at a lower level than the encounter zone level itself will have a great chance to spwan higher enemies (and this will also depend on the scaling difficulty you choose).

Zones like vampire's lair or dwemer ruins are certainly not recommended when you are low level (like Dark souls where you can visit the squeleton wheels zone just after the eagle dropped you in Lordran but really not recommended if you don't want to die a lot)

As all encounter zones have no maximum in Nolvus Awakening, when you will reach a higher level than the minimum level of the encounter zone, higher enemies will be pulled out from the carefully patched leveled npcs lists.

These npc's will additionnaly continue to scale depedending the level multiplier they have (bound to their rank, faction and class) and can still be higher or lower than you.

Basically every enemy npcs placed into the game (by the base game or any mods) have a spawn difficulty set when they are linked to an encounter zone.

  • Easy
  • Medium
  • Hard
  • Very Hard

With this system every easy and medium spawns will populate random enemy levels (some lower or some higher than you depending the preset you choose) while hard and very hard spawns will be always higher level and all of this within the range of the encounter zone and your level (which will continue to scale as you progress)

The Following info are used to calculate the Enemies Level Scaling.

Scaling Calculation

To Simplify the understanding, let's just take the example of a Bandit leveled list that is linked to any bandit encounter zones in the game.

Bandit Encounter Zone Level (taken from the layout described above)

Zone Minimum Level Zone Maxium Level
8 No Maximum

The zone minimum level is not the minimum level that enemies will have but the level of the zone itself used for the enemy level calculation

Bandits Leveled List

  • Rank is the rank of the enemies (in Nolvus Awakening bandit can reach rank 10, 6 in the vanilla game)
  • Min Level is the minimum level a bandit can have
  • Max level is the max level a bandit can reach (this value depends on the difficulty preset you choose)
  • Level list level is the level on which the calculation will be applied for that bandit rank
  • Multiplier is the multiplier applied to your level to determine the new bandit level for that rank
Rank Min Level Max Level Leveled list Level Multiplier (your level * multiplier)
1 2 50 1 0.5
2 6 50 5 0.6
3 10 50 9 0.7
4 15 50 14 0.83
5 20 50 19 0.85
6 26 50 25 0.93
7 31 50 31 0.96
8 37 50 37 1.0
9 43 50 43 1.15
10 50 50 50 1.22
Visiting a bandits encounter zone at level 1 using the Hack & Slash preset.

These are the bandit level that you will find

  • Easy Spawn : Bandit Rank 1 Lvl 2
  • Medium Spawn : Bandit Rank 2 Lvl 6
  • Hard Spawn : Bandit Rank 2 Lvl 6
  • Very Hard Spawn : Bandit Rank 3 Lvl 10

In other words, visiting a bandit camp at level 1, you can encounter bandit levels 2, 6 and 10.

How Nolvus Awakening did calculate these values?

First it determines the zone level which we will call [ZONE-LEVEL]

It takes your level (1) and compare it to the minimum encounter zone level (8)

As your level is under the minimum level of the encounter zone, it will be [ZONE-LEVEL] = 8

Easy Spawn

For all Easy spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone easy spawn multiplier which is 0.5 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 8.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (8) * Easy Spawn multiplier (0.5) = 4

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 4 and randomly take one of the corresponding npcs in the leveled list.

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 1 who has a minimum level of 2 and a multiplier of 0.5. (in this case there is only one)

Then it will multiply your level (1) by the npc level multiplier (0.5)

1 * 0.5 = 0.5, as 0.5 is under the minimum level of the bandit (2), his level will stay at 2.

Medium Spawn

For all Medium spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 0.75 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 8.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (8) * Medium Spawn multiplier (0.75) = 6

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 6 and take the first one only.

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 2 who has a minimum level of 6 and a multiplier of 0.6.

Then it will multiply your level (1) by the npc level multiplier (0.6)

1 * 0.6 = 0.6, as 0.6 is under the minimum level of the bandit (6), his level will stay at 6.

Hard Spawn

For all Hard spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 8.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (8) * Hard Spawn multiplier (1) = 8

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 8 and take the first one only

Very Hard Spawn

For all Very Hard spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1.25 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 8.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (8) * Very Hard Spawn multiplier (1.25) = 10

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 10 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 3 who has a minimum level of 10 and a multiplier of 0.7.

Then it will multiply your level (1) by the npc level multiplier (0.7)

1 * 0.7 = 0.6, as 0.7 is under the minimum level of the bandit (10), his level will stay at 10.

Visiting a bandits encounter zone at level 25 using the Hack & Slash preset.

These are the bandit level that you will find

  • Easy Spawn (random) : Bandit Rank 3 Lvl 17, Rank 2 Lvl 15, Rank 1 Level 12
  • Medium Spawn : Bandit Rank 4 Lvl 20
  • Hard Spawn : Bandit Rank 6 Lvl 26
  • Very Hard Spawn : Bandit Rank 7 Lvl 31

In other words, visiting a bandit camp at level 25, you can encounter bandit levels 12, 15, 17, 20, 26 and 31.

How Nolvus Awakening did calculate these values?

First it determines the zone level which we will call [ZONE-LEVEL]

It takes your level (25) and compare it to the minimum encounter zone level (8)

As your level is above the minimum level of the encounter zone, it will be [ZONE-LEVEL] = 25 (the zone having no maximum its current max level will be your level)

Easy Spawn

For all Easy spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone easy spawn multiplier which is 0.5 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Easy Spawn multiplier (0.5) = 12.5 (rounded to 12)

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 12 and randomly take one of the corresponding npcs in the leveled list.

The bandits matching this criteria are the bandits Rank 1 who has a minimum level of 2 and a multiplier of 0.5, Rank 2 who has a minimum level of 6 and a multiplier of 0.6 and Rank 3 who has a minimum level of 10 and a multiplier of 0.7.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (0.5) for the bandit rank 1, (0.6) for the bandit rank 2 and (0.7) for the bandit rank3

So now the bandit rank 1 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.5 = 12.5 (rounded to 12), as 12 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 1 (2), his level will be 12.

The bandit rank 2 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.6 = 15, as 15 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 2 (6), his level will be 15.

The bandit rank 3 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.7 = 17.5 (rounded to 17), as 17 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 3 (10), his level will be 17.

Medium Spawn

For all Medium spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 0.75 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Medium Spawn multiplier (0.75) = 18.75 (rounded to 18)

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 18 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 4 who has a minimum level of 15 and a multiplier of 0.83.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (0.83)

25 * 0.83 = 20.75 (rounded to 20), as 20 is above the minimum level of the bandit (15), the bandit level will be scaled to 20.

Hard Spawn

For all Hard spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Hard Spawn multiplier (1) = 25

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 25 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 6 who has a minimum level of 26 and a multiplier of 0.93.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (0.93)

25 * 0.93 = 23,.25 (rounded) to 23, as 23 is under the minimum level of the bandit (26), his level will stay at 26.

Very Hard Spawn

For all Very Hard spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1.25 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Very Hard Spawn multiplier (1.25) = 31.25 (rounded to 31)

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 31 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 7 who has a minimum level of 31 and a multiplier of 0.96.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (0.96)

25 * 0.96 = 24, as 24 is under the minimum level of the bandit (31), his level will stay at 31.

The bandits matching this criteria are the bandits Rank 1 who has a minimum level of 2 and a multiplier of 0.6, Rank 2 who has a minimum level of 6 and a multiplier of 0.7 and Rank 3 who has a minimum level of 10 and a multiplier of 0.8.

Then it will multiply your level (1) by the npc level multiplier (0.6) for the bandit rank 1, (0.7) for the bandit rank 2 and (0.8) for the bandit rank3

1 (your level) * 0.6 = 0.6, as 0.6 is under the minimum level of the bandit rank 1 (2), his level will stay 2.

How Nolvus Awakening did calculate these values?

First it determines the zone level which we will call [ZONE-LEVEL]

It takes your level (25) and compare it to the minimum encounter zone level (13)

As your level is above the minimum level of the encounter zone, it will be [ZONE-LEVEL] = 25 (the zone having no maximum its current max level will be your level)

Easy Spawn

For all Easy spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone easy spawn multiplier which is 0.75 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Easy Spawn multiplier (0.75) = 18.75 (rounded to 18)

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 18 and randomly take one of the corresponding npcs in the leveled list.

The bandits matching this criteria are the bandits Rank 1 who has a minimum level of 2 and a multiplier of 0.6, Rank 2 who has a minimum level of 6 and a multiplier of 0.7, Rank 3 who has a minimum level of 10 and a multiplier of 0.8 and Rank 4 who has a minimum level of 15 and a multiplier of 0.93.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (0.7) for the bandit rank 1, (0.7) for the bandit rank 2, (0.8) for the bandit rank 3 and (0.93) for the bandit rank 4.

So now the bandit rank 1 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.6 = 15, as 15 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 1 (2), his level will be 15.

The bandit rank 2 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.7 = 17.5 (rounded to 17), as 17 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 2 (6), his level will be 17.

The bandit rank 3 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.8 = 20, as 20 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 3 (10), his level will be 20.

The bandit rank 4 will be scaled to 25 (your level) * 0.93 = 23.25 (rounded to 23), as 23 is above the minimum level of the bandit rank 4 (15), his level will be 23.

Medium Spawn

For all Medium spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Medium Spawn multiplier (1) = 25

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 25 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 6 who has a minimum level of 26 and a multiplier of 1.03.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (1.03)

25 * 1.03 = 25.75 (rounded to 25), as 25 is under the minimum level of the bandit (26), his level will stay at 26.

Hard Spawn

For all Hard spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1.25 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Hard Spawn multiplier (1.25) = 31.25 (rounded to 31)

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 31 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 7 who has a minimum level of 31 and a multiplier of 1.06.

Then it will multiply your level (25) by the npc level multiplier (1.06)

25 * 1.06 = 26.5 (rounded to 26), as 26 is under the minimum level of the bandit (31), his level will stay at 31.

Very Hard Spawn

For all Very Hard spawns, it will multiply the encounter zone medium spawn multiplier which is 1.5 by the [ZONE-LEVEL] which is 25.

[ZONE-LEVEL] (25) * Very Hard Spawn multiplier (1.5) = 37.5 (rounded to 37)

Then the game will search for any level in the bandit leveled list that is inferior or equal to 37 and take the first one only

The first bandit matching this criteria is the bandit Rank 8 who has a minimum level of 37 and a multiplier of 1.
